Arsenal scored first through a Theo Walcott goal in the second minute that was claimed to be offside. Both teams had chances to score in the second half but neither did and the score finished 1–1. Manchester United had to play a midweek fixture away to West Ham. This was a tough game that saw the hosts go ahead twice through Ricardo Vaz Tê and Mohamed Diamé.
